Question for Thursday - July 10, 2014

QUESTION FOR THURSDAY - JULY 10, 2014:

"AoA > An open question to all. How can we make ourselves spend more time on worshipping and reading Qur'an in Ramadan when checking into Facebook frequently and other Internet activities have become our habit throughout the year? This is both for adults and youngsters. Please don't say that simply log off because we all use computers in our daily routines. So we need some special motivation and other techniques. In Ramadan, a good deed is multiplied by 70 times, so we should not lose this time. Waiting for the answer. JazaakAllah."

Eradicating Extremism

Eradicating Extremism

The other day, I wrote a small note on Facebook "Fighting Extremism" and someone immediately started debating against my note because that person thought I meant "Fighting" as in war, swords and guns. What I actually meant was "steps on how to remove extremism from our society" and the note was not about "war on terror", rather the extremist "views" nurtured by some individuals in Pakistan who forget to realize that we are living in a dynamic world today. And the note was in favor of retaining Madressahs as the education centers but only adding worldly education also, compared to some secular intellectuals who are always speaking about abolishing the Madressah system altogether in Pakistan because of having a bias against Islam.

THE ORIGINAL NOTE - HOW TO ERADICATE EXTREMISM FROM OUR SOCIETY -

Extremism is a different issue altogether than terrorism. In order to eradicate it, we need to bring the Madressahs at par with the rest of the educational institutions in the country while not compromising on the studies of Qur’an, Hadith and Arabic Language. A mix of teachers who are religious as well as worldly educated should govern the Madressahs and the students studying there should not be from the deprived class only. The right combination of religion and worldly education is desired in the curriculum in all educational institutions. Lastly, we should stop associating terrorism with the fundamentalists or the Madressahs, since that is exactly what our enemies intend!

Maryam's Position

Maryam's Position:

In Pakistan there has always been an unhealthy trend to appoint your own kith and kin in positions around you. This happens in private sector also and is mostly not on merit. This creates frustration amongst the other dedicated and experienced professionals, who are not given due respect and acknowledgment for their hard work and services. This is one of the major reasons why Pakistan is not progressing and especially when Pakistan is not short of senior and experienced individuals. The aim of this post is only to address this issue - the rulers should mend their ways and remove this evil from this system apart from others.

Gone to the dogs?

Gone to the dogs?

Someone shared this article by Dr A Q Khan "Gone to the dogs". Amongst other issues, the article gives a balanced viewpoint about the incident in Model Town. It is a very good article, everything perfect, but when we read about "Imran Khan being indecent on his part to call a media house (JANG group) and its editor-in-chief names" then we can also observe that it is on THE NEWS site. However, Imran Khan should definitely act less emotional and invest more time and money in other developmental ventures than these 'jalsaas' which are distracting the attention of common people from their daily duties. Secondly, the article casts a very hopeless picture about Pakistan and we can do without prophecies of Maulana Abdul Qalam Azad as mentioned in it. Presenting hopelessness about future of Pakistan is specialty of JANG GROUP...
