1st Muharram - Demise of Sayyiduna Umar Farooq رضى الله عنه
Today is 1st Muharram. On this day Sayyiduna Umar Farooq رضى الله عنه left this world for the eternal abode.
He is the 2nd Khalifa of Islam and renowned for justice, piety and tolerance.
He stated, "If a dog dies hungry on the bank of the River Euphrates, Umar will be held responsible."
According to Jewish tradition, he set aside the Christian ban on Jews and allowed Jews into Jerusalem and to worship.
