Salimuzzaman Siddiqui – A visionary of science

[MUST READ - LINK GIVEN BELOW AFTER THIS PASSAGE] - A most inspiring
account of a man whose achievements are truly unmatchable and impressive
with selfless contribution to the country. The man also happened to be
the grandfather of my sister-in-law (brother's wife) and sharing this
article as it just caught my eye. And conversely, today we have also
Pakistani men who in spite of having time, energy and resources do not
think of contributing anything to the motherland in these difficult
times.
Secondly, sometimes i would like to put a question to a staff member in DAWN, that why most of the opinions (articles/blogs) in the newspaper (not this article) are by expats living in USA? We understand that they might have a certain edge over Pakistanis in some chosen fields but why do we need to project their views on our attitudes as Pakistanis in relation to US intervention in Muslim lands or US policies? Why should they try to teach tolerance to us when they don't try to raise a strong voice against the oppressive and deceitful US government foreign policies themselves while living there?
Tolerance is indeed one of the needs of the time but so is acknowledging the underhandedness by the countries that continue to create havoc in the world - To start with, one fact is that drone strikes have been conducted against Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Pakistan and Gaza. And in Pakistan alone at least 400 innocent civilians have been killed so far in the US strikes since 2004. Hence, it would be more befitting if the opinions of expats are sought in matters of education, technology & career only (if need be) rather than placing them on a high pedestal and being the judge of how we Pakistanis need to form our beliefs and attitudes!
