Eradicating Extremism

Eradicating Extremism

The other day, I wrote a small note on Facebook "Fighting Extremism" and someone immediately started debating against my note because that person thought I meant "Fighting" as in war, swords and guns. What I actually meant was "steps on how to remove extremism from our society" and the note was not about "war on terror", rather the extremist "views" nurtured by some individuals in Pakistan who forget to realize that we are living in a dynamic world today. And the note was in favor of retaining Madressahs as the education centers but only adding worldly education also, compared to some secular intellectuals who are always speaking about abolishing the Madressah system altogether in Pakistan because of having a bias against Islam.

THE ORIGINAL NOTE - HOW TO ERADICATE EXTREMISM FROM OUR SOCIETY -

Extremism is a different issue altogether than terrorism. In order to eradicate it, we need to bring the Madressahs at par with the rest of the educational institutions in the country while not compromising on the studies of Qur’an, Hadith and Arabic Language. A mix of teachers who are religious as well as worldly educated should govern the Madressahs and the students studying there should not be from the deprived class only. The right combination of religion and worldly education is desired in the curriculum in all educational institutions. Lastly, we should stop associating terrorism with the fundamentalists or the Madressahs, since that is exactly what our enemies intend!
