Salaat Al-Tasbeeh (Significance & step-by-step format)

In the name of ALLAH, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
SALAAT AL-TASBEEH (SIGNIFICANCE & STEP-BY-STEP FORMAT)

- Offering this Salaat on odd nights in the third portion of Ramadan is recommended by scholars apart from other forms of worship. Total time taken for it is around 20-25 minutes.
  • Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) reports that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaahu Alayhi Wasallam) said to his uncle Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib (RA), "Shall I not give you a gift? Shall I grant you a blessing? Shall I inform you of a great benefit? Shall I give you something, which if you do, Allah will forgive you all your sins, old and past and new, committed by mistake or knowingly, small and big, committed in secret or openly?" Then he explained the procedure of a Salaat (Salaat-al Tasbeeh). Afterwards, he said, "If possible, offer this prayer once every day; if you cannot, offer it once on Fridays, if this is not possible, offer it once a month, if this too is not possible, offer it once a year, and if even this is not possible, offer it once in your lifetime." (Ibn Maja, Tirmizi, Abu Daud)
  • Hazrat Abbas (RA) used to offer this prayer every Friday and Abu Jauzan Ta-i used to come to the mosque every day as soon as the azan for the noon prayers was called and would offer it by the time the Jamaat stood up for the obligatory prayers.
  • Hazrat Abdul Aziz bin abi Radad held that he who wanted paradise should hold on firmly to Salaa-al-Tasbeeh.
  • According to Imam Ghazali, "There is nothing better than Salaat-al-Tasbeeh to keep away troubles and sorrow."
Salaat-al-Tasbeeh (A Step-by-step Format):
  • First of all Nee-at (intention) for 4 Rikkah Nafal Prayer
  • In every Rikkah, after "Subhaanaa Kalla Humma ---" (Sanaa) and before "Al-hamdolillah-e-Rabbil----" (Fateha) read this 15 times: "Subhaanallaahi Wal-hamdolillah-e Wala Ilaaha Illallahu Walla-hu Akbar" (GLORY BE TO ALLAH, ALL PRAISE IS FOR ALLAH, THERE IS NO ONE WORTHY OF WORSHIP EXCEPT ALLAH AND ALLAH IS GREAT) (which is the initial portion of 3rd Kalma & referred to as "the same" henceforth)
  • After "Al-hamdolillah-e-Rabbil----" and a Surat, read "the same" 10 times in standing position before Rukku
  • Then in Rukku, read "the same" 10 times after "Subhaana Rabbi-ul-Azeem"
  • Then read "the same" 10 times in standing position after getting up from Rukku & saying "Rabbana Lakalhamd"
  • Then read "the same" 10 times in the 1st prostration (sajda) after "Subhaana Rabbi-ul-Aala"
  • Then read "the same" 10 times after getting up from 1st prostration (sajda) and in sitting position
  • Then read "the same" 10 times in the 2nd prostration after "Subhaana Rabbi-ul-Aala"
  • So in every Rikkah, "the same" is recited 75 times, making a total of 300 times in 4 Rikkats.
  • To keep count of "the same" 15 or 10 times, you should press your fingers one by one against the parts of the body or prayer-mat (either in standing, bending, sitting or prostrated positions). The counting should not be done orally. But you should not curl your fingers or hand which leaves the Namaaz redundant.

  • May ALLAH Remove The Hardships Of Everyone! Aameen.
