SUNDAY TALK – 23 November, 2014 / 29 Muharram, 1436
Dear All,
Assalam-o-Alaikum!
If you are receiving these mails then it means you are special because these are not commercial mails prompting you to buy a physical product or service. This humble journey started in 2005 though the frequency and intensity varied at different times. The main objective was to identify, learn and reintroduce ‘True Islam’ in our lives even though many recipients might be better human beings and better Muslims compared to the sender. Still, we all need reminders. ‘True Islam’ is like a mirage in today’s world and all of us are lost, including me. It has been attacked by both internal and external forces leaving us confused. We cannot excuse ourselves also for our apathy and ignorance.
Majority of the people in Pakistan (whether educated or illiterate) are inclined towards traditional Islam or are neutral. Only a small percentage of Pakistanis who are in the media and some non-governmental organizations, are consciously or subconsciously working against Islam posing serious threats. And the corporate world of Pakistan with its cut-throat competition and progressive systems at par with the business sectors of the West has its own religion. People fail to distinguish between right and wrong while being part of it and their goals become more and more materialistic. Due to the phenomenon of annual appraisals (in some companies bi-annual), everyone is in a rat race to beat his or her opponent to earn greater share in increment, whether through fair or unfair practices. Many lose their religion in that pursuit. Needless to say, the extent of corruption in local businesses cannot be ignored also due to dominance of crooked ways and procedures. Let’s recall from Qur’an: “Your wealth and your children are but a trial, and Allah has with Him a great reward.” – (Surat At-Taghābun: 15).
Have you not noticed that wars, poverty, oppression, treachery and diabolic traditions have multiplied all over the world in the last few centuries? We have been living in a ‘free’ world, haven’t we? Visual Entertainment has become very cheap owing to the prevalence of ‘free media’, Internet and mobile phones. Has this made our lives easier or free of threats? We are more prone to dangers than we were ever before. The actual forces behind all the chaos of the world have made us believed that Islam (or Radical Islam) is responsible for everything. What an irony!
‘Talk is cheap’ you will say, but realization is the first step. ‘They’ have succeeded in indoctrinating us that Islamic concepts are orthodox, impractical and dangerous while they continue to wage one war after another upon us. We are not just one country but we are part of one Ummah.
The word 'Islam' conjures up images of Maulvis or Mullahs in our minds. A favourite habit is to call any person who talks about Islam, ‘Maulvi’. And then we call ourselves educated! Good and bad people are everywhere, but here our logic fails us!
My friends, I request you to recognize the inherent jewels of Islam. Save yourself from propaganda against Islam, Muslims and Muslim world by the funded think-tanks, foreign and local. Read Qur’an with translation yourself, also good books on Islam and listen to different senior scholars in your free time. You will realize what you have been missing.
