The Love of Animals in Islam

A MUST READ 🔔

The Love of Animals in Islam💯💫💕

NOTE: The image above might not truly depict love of animals but nevertheless there is 'human touch' involved

Mistreating animals is considered a sin in Islam. A Muslim is responsible for the care of animals so much so that an mistreated animal will testify against the one who abused it on the Day of Judgment. Islam forbids branding animals and killing them in vain, such as for sport. Our dear Prophet (pbuh) forbade people to capture birds, burn anthills, and whip animals. Even in slaughtering animals for food, Islam requires that the slaughtering be done according to Islamic procedure, which is humane and aims to cause the animals as little suffering as possible. As humans, we have a responsibility towards every living creature.

Abu Hurayrah (ra) was a close Companion of the Prophet (pbuh) and has narrated more hadiths, or sayings of the Prophet (pbuh), than any other Companion. He was known for being very sympathetic and loving towards animals so much so that although his name was `Abdur-Rahman, he was known as Abu Hurayrah, meaning “father of the kitten.” He was called so because of a small cat that he used to feed and care for and carry with him everywhere he went.

Cats in Islam:

The Prophet (pbuh) taught mercy to all of God’s creation. There are many reports of his love for cats resulting in their historical acceptance among Muslims. Cats were very common among the people during the time of the Prophet (pbuh), and he said, “They (cats) are not impure and they intermingle with you.”1 The cat is such a clean animal that according to authentic narrations one may make ablution for Prayer with the same water that a cat drank from. Yet, it is known that some people nowadays have opposed the traditions of the Prophet (pbuh) by taking up the evil practices of torturing and poisoning cats. In Islam, punishment for such acts is severe. Both Al-Bukhari and Muslim reported a hadith regarding a woman who locked up a cat, refusing to feed it and not releasing it so that it could feed itself. The Prophet (pbuh) said that her punishment on the Day of Judgment will be torture and Hell.

Dogs in Islam:

Many Muslims have misunderstood Islam’s teachings regarding dogs, and this misunderstanding has led to the mistreatment of these animals. The Prophet (pbuh) said, “Purifying a container that a dog has licked (in order for human’s to use it) is done by washing it seven times, the first washing being with dirt." However, according to some scholars, a dog’s fur is considered pure. Nonetheless, Muslims are discouraged from keeping dogs inside their homes, as the Prophet (pbuh) has been reported as saying that angels do not enter into a house that has a dog.

However, just because one does not keep a dog inside the home and doesn't drink after it, that does not give one the right to neglect it, mistreat it, or kill it. The usefulness of this creature of Allah is indisputable. No other animal can compete with it in its loyalty to its caregiver, its abilities as a guard, and its talent for hunting. In fact, the Holy Qur’an narrates in Surat Al-Kahf, or “The Cave,” the story of some pious youths who took refuge in a cave from the persecution and violence of the unbelievers. That these righteous people had a dog with them, and the fact that Allah mentions the dog and counts the dog among them, indicates that dogs are permitted to live among people. [And you would have thought them awake, whereas they were asleep. And We turned them on their right and on their left sides, and their dog stretching forth his two forelegs at the entrance (of the cave as a guard)] (Al-Kahf 18:18).

So dogs may be used for guards as well as for hunting, as the Qur’an also states: [They ask you about what is lawful for them (as food); Say: Lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure: and those beasts and birds of prey which you have trained as hounds, training and teaching them (to catch) in a manner as directed to you by Allah; so eat what they catch for you, but pronounce the name of Allah over it and fear Allah, for Allah is swift in reckoning] (Al-Ma’idah 5:4).

In two separate hadiths narrated by Abu Hurayrah (the cat-loving Companion), the Prophet (pbuh) told his Companions of the virtue of saving the life of a dog by giving it water and quenching its thirst: one referred to was a man who was blessed by Allah for giving water to a thirsty dog. The other was a prostitute, who filled her shoe with water and gave it to a dog that was lolling its tongue in thirst. For this deed she was granted the ultimate reward: eternal Paradise. (According to one narration, basically the woman received Allah's blessing due to that act and repented in front of Allah changing her life hence being enabled for the ultimate reward, the Paradise).

Islam asks people to reflect upon this and be aware of each person’s duty toward God’s creatures, which He has put on earth for our use, not for our abuse. When the Prophet (pbuh) was asked if Allah rewarded acts of charity to the animals, he replied, “Yes, there is a reward for acts of charity to every beast alive.”

Jabir reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by an animal that had been branded upon its face. He said, “Allah has cursed whoever does this; let not one of you mark the face or strike it.”

This Maulana Sahib has great guts and the courage to tell truth in front of rulers. It is true that during the reign of first Caliph of Islam Hadhrat Abu-Bakr Siddique (ra), Jihad was done against the false prophet Musailma Kazzaab and his companions. This is how delicate the matter of Khatm-e-Nubuwwat (Finality of Prophethood) is for Muslims because the basic foundation of Islam rests on it.

Today however, since many generations of followers of false prophet Mirza Qadiyani have passed, we need to preach to them with peace, love and tolerance, and at the same time be ware of this false faith lest we fall victims to it ourselves (God forbid).

J. R. R. Tolkien - Author of 'The Lord of the Rings'

J. R. R. TOLKIEN - Author of 'The Lord of the Rings'

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (1892 – 1973) was the author of the high fantasy series 'The Lord of the Rings'. He was 45 when he started writing the first “Rings,” as a sequel to his 1937 “The Hobbit”; he was 63 when the third novel was published.

Tolkien never expected his stories to become popular, but by sheer accident a book called The Hobbit, which he had written some years before for his own children, came in 1936 to the attention of Susan Dagnall, an employee of the London publishing firm George Allen & Unwin, who persuaded Tolkien to submit it for publication. When it was published a year later, the book attracted adult readers as well as children, and it became popular enough for the publishers to ask Tolkien to produce a sequel.

The request for a sequel prompted Tolkien to begin what would become his most famous work: the epic novel The Lord of the Rings (originally published in three volumes 1954–1955). Tolkien spent more than ten years writing the primary narrative and appendices for The Lord of the Rings, during which time he received the constant support of the Inklings, in particular his closest friend C. S. Lewis, the author of The Chronicles of Narnia. Both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings are set against the background of The Silmarillion, but in a time long after it.

Tolkien at first intended The Lord of the Rings to be a children's tale in the style of The Hobbit, but it quickly grew darker and more serious in the writing. Though a direct sequel to The Hobbit, it addressed an older audience, drawing on the immense backstory of Beleriand that Tolkien had constructed in previous years, and which eventually saw posthumous publication in The Silmarillion and other volumes. Tolkien's influence weighs heavily on the fantasy genre that grew up after the success of The Lord of the Rings.

The Lord of the Rings became immensely popular in the 1960s and has remained so ever since, ranking as one of the most popular works of fiction of the 20th century, judged by both sales and reader surveys. In the 2003 "Big Read" survey conducted by the BBC, The Lord of the Rings was found to be the UK's "Best-loved Novel". Australians voted The Lord of the Rings "My Favourite Book" in a 2004 survey conducted by the Australian ABC. In a 1999 poll of Amazon.com customers, The Lord of the Rings was judged to be their favourite "book of the millennium".

In 2002 Tolkien was voted the 92nd "greatest Briton" in a poll conducted by the BBC, and in 2004 he was voted 35th in the SABC3's Great South Africans, the only person to appear in both lists. His popularity is not limited to the English-speaking world: in a 2004 poll inspired by the UK's "Big Read" survey, about 250,000 Germans found The Lord of the Rings to be their favourite work of literature.

SORRY IMRAN KHAN

SORRY IMRAN KHAN

Sorry Imran Khan, there is definitely some good being done by your government (like austerity drive, trees, dam, funds etc.) and we prefer your leadership over elements from Jamaat-e-Islami but you should avoid being over-confident on matters of Islam.

The blasphemous cartoon contest in Holland was not called off primarily due to your efforts as claimed by you in your latest speech to the nation. The collective efforts of all do matter, however the offender cancelled the contest basically due to threats by Afghan Taliban who urged the Afghan soldiers in Afghanistan to attack Dutch troops that were serving under the NATO command. Secondly, a 26-year old Pakistani was also allegedly arrested in The Hague who had earlier threatened to kill Geert Wilders.

It was basically these threats or security concerns which took effect and scared the transgressor. Pakistan government's diplomatic efforts were not the main reason behind the success of cancellation of blasphemous contest though we should use all our resources and ways to protest in such matters.

Your vision of Madinah State is more inspired from Western States rather than the true model of Islam and it basically revolves around worldly goals (even if we need to learn positive trends of Western States).

In your very first speech to the nation after becoming Prime Minister of Pakistan, you stated that the rise of Muslims and consequently defeat of Roman and Persian Empires was due to strengthening of manpower and fulfilling rights of all (including minorities) in a just manner etc.

Manpower and just rights for all is a basic tenet of Islam (with a difference of few details) but we could be overlooking something about the main pillar of the first Madinah State. It is mentioned in Qur'an that Almighty Allah sent one thousand angels to help our dear Prophet (pbuh) and his companions when they were fighting the battle of Badr (Ghazwa-e-Badr) against the invaders from Makkah. How do you think that happened? The Prophet (pbuh) and his companions in Madinah had little manpower and certainly not material superiority. What they did have was total submission to Allah which we as a nation are lacking. The policies of present government of Pakistan are deficient in this regard though not totally disappointing thankfully.

Concerning the case of Asia Bibi, it is feared that we are always bowing before the pressures of imperial powers in the world. The protests by Khadim Hussain and his workers are very revolting, however it needs to be highlighted that whenever the matter of defending the honour of our dear Prophet (pbuh) is 'especially' concerned, we should take our own independent stand on the case and need not fear any reaction from the foreign countries for the only Superpower is Allah Almighty and we should submit to Him alone!

It is good decision by government to look into the case of Asia Bibi again. Supreme Court should scrutinize the case again and seek help from the genuine Islamic scholars of Islam also so that there is no ambiguity left in the case. The intervention of Islamic scholars in the process can impart credibility to it and can help calm down the extremists. It can convey an air of responsible attitude on part of government to the public and prevent anyone from taking law in their own hands. In the long run, the Pakistan government can win (not just PTI but it can function as a precedent for future governments also).

It is no doubt a highly sensitive case. When we have tried our best, then we can hope from the Almighty to absolve us.

May ALLAH guide us and protect us - Aameen.

Judges of Supreme court could not find concrete evidence in Asia Bibi's case, hence she was acquitted. The witnesses gave different figures about the number of people present at a gathering.

ALLAH knows best, guilty or NOT guilty - May He guide us - Aameen - So many years have passed since 2009 when this case was first initiated. We don't know what the witnesses themselves are going through or whether they are able to recall the event correctly by now (whether against Asia or in her favour).

On the other hand, a lawyer of Lahore High Court said that even many actual murderers are acquitted in criminal cases in Pakistan because of poor evidence and due to adherence to British law. Solid evidence is failed to be produced even in case of actual killers. This is alarming. In Islam, there is concept of speedy justice for all cases. We don't have true Islamic system of justice operating in courts of Pakistan at the moment.

Whether a woman of minority community in Pakistan can be pardoned or not against her appeal of pardon for offence of blasphemy is also something which the scholars of Islam should seriously work on. But Asia Bibi did not beg pardon, did she?
