18th Dhul-Hijjah
– The day Hadhrat Usman (RA), the third Caliph of Islam met his martyrdom:
- 18th Dhul-Hijjah fell on October 24, 2013 -
Hadhrat
Usman (RA) was the third Caliph of Islam. He was a very simple and very kind
person. His simplicity and kindness did not allow him to take strong action
against the trouble-makers and rioters. Above all, because of his
simple-mindedness, his administration was not as disciplined as it had been
during the Khilafat of Hadhrat Umar (RA). Usman (RA) was a soft natured, kindhearted
and a generous man. He used to spend a lot of money for Islam and to free the
slaves. He was a great and pious man who feared and loved Almighty Allah and
Sayyiduna Rasool Allah (Sal-Allaahu Alaihi Wa-Alaihi Wasallam) above everything
else. Although he was a very rich cloth merchant, his living was very simple.
He did not indulge in luxury and was ever mindful of death.
SOME OTHER FINE POINTS OF HADHRAT USMAN’S
(RA) LIFE:
§ He donated a huge amount of property whenever needed by
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in the way of ALLAH and got the title of
"Ghani".
§ When the Muslims migrated to Madinah from Makkah, he
owned a fresh water well from a Jew and gave it to the Muslims for free, who
were in deep trouble due to absence of fresh water in the Holy city of Madinah.
§ When the Holy Prophet (PBUH) went to the expedition of
Tabuk, Hadhrat Usman bore the expenses for one third Islamic army (i.e., about
10,000 men). He also gave one thousand camels, fifty horses and one thousand
Dinars (gold coins) to support the rest of the army.
§ He participated in almost all the battles of Islam with
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
§ Every sane father thinks a million times before marrying
off his daughter to a man. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) never thought twice before
marrying two of his beloved daughters, one after the other, to Hadhrat Usman
(RA). For this act he was bestowed the title of "Dhun-Norain" by
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
§ Hadhrat Usman had a beautiful handwriting because of
which the Holy Prophet (pbuh) appointed him as one of the scribes of the “Wahy”
(Qur'anic Revelations).
§ At the time of the “Treaty of Hudaibiya” he was sent to
Makkah to negotiate with the non-believers.
§ The most important work done in His Caliphate was the
rebuilding of "Masjid-e-Nabwi". He made it 3 times greater than its
original shape and area.
§ He used to fear Allah very much. Tears used to roll down
his face because of Allah’s fear. Whenever the consequences to be faced in the
grave were described before him, he used to weep so much that his beard would
get wet with tears. Sometimes he wept and cried seeing a corpse or a grave
because of fear of Allah. He used to say, “Grave is the first stage among all
the stages of the Hereafter. If a person is successful there, he would be
successful on the Day of Judgment too. If a person faces difficulty in the
grave, other stages would also be difficult for him.”
§ On the 18th Dhul-Hijjah, Friday 35 Hijri, while he was
reciting the Holy Qur’an in his home and fasting, he was martyred by the assassins.
