Recently some changes were made in the syllabus of subject of English for Intermediate students. The novella "Goodbye Mr. Chips" was removed from the course and a book with real stories from the life of our beloved Prophet (pbuh) has been introduced instead.
Goodbye, Mr. Chips is a novella about the life of a schoolteacher, Mr. Chipping, written by the English writer James Hilton and first published by Hodder & Stoughton on October 1934.
While we Muslims love our Prophet (pbuh) beyond measure but we think a book of English literature is taught to students in Intermediate as part of subject of English only to equip them with taste of classic English. Our beautiful religion Islam is already covered in the subject of Islamiat since Class 1 as well as the different aspects of life of our Beloved Prophet (pbuh).
We need to keep the syllabus in our schools and colleges balanced. Attention should be paid instead to imparting Sunnah ways and Sunnah supplications of our Prophet (pbuh) as part of course in Islamiat to students of English Medium Institutions.
If for some reason the content of the book "Goodbye Mr. Chips" is not considered suitable for students, then it could even be replaced by some other novel or novella of classic English literature.
