Examples of forgiveness and punishment for blasphemy

EXAMPLES OF FORGIVENESS AND PUNISHMENT FOR BLASPHEMY

Our dear Prophet (pbuh) in his lifetime had the right to forgive anyone who caused him pain or ridiculed him. An old Jewish woman used to throw garbage over him every day from her terrace when he used to walk by on the street below. One day as he was passing by, he noticed that no one threw garbage over him. He went up to inquire and found that she was ill. He nursed her and brought her back to health. Similarly, when the Prophet (pbuh) went to Taif to preach Islam, the city dwellers let some boys pelt him with stones due to which he bled severely from his wounds. However, he forgave even them.

It is important to note that when the Muslims finally conquered Makkah without any war or bloodshed, the Prophet (pbuh) forgave everyone including his old enemies like even Hindah, the wife of Abu Sufyan who had killed Hadhrat Hamza (ra), the Uncle of Prophet (pbuh) in an earlier battle and then took his heart out to chew it. What could be a more greater example of forgiveness? However, those in Makkah who were guilty of blasphemous acts were not spared. It is because the foundation of Islam rests on the message brought by the Messenger of ALLAH (swt), peace be upon him. Without him, can there be Islam or Muslims?
