LENGTH OF JUDGEMENT DAY:
Judgement day is like the final examination hall for all human beings - a fascinating topic we cannot ignore. Given below is an excerpt from an article on Internet.
Around 6-7 years ago, I discovered while reading Qur’an with translation that the Judgement Day (roz-e-qayaamat) will be 50,000 years in length.
It was from a Urdu copy of Qur’an (published in 1940) with mini-explanation (tafseer) given on side-margins belonging to my late-grandmother. Further to share I feel I need to read and re-read the translation of whole Qur’an many times to have good overall understanding.
LENGTH OF JUDGEMENT DAY:
There are many verses and narrations regarding what will happen on the Day of Judgement, it is mentioned that the day itself will be the length of 50,000 years:
The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. [The Qur'an Al-Ma'arij 70:4]
Although the Day of Judgement is extremely long, it is mentioned that for the righteous believer, it will be like the time between the mid day prayer and the afternoon prayer (i.e a few hours):
The Prophet (May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “For the believers, the (length of) the Day of Resurrection will be like the time between Dhuhr and ‘Asr.” [Reported by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak, Saheeh al-Jaami’, 8193]
