Letter from Ottoman Sultan Beyazid I to Timur, 1402:

"To fight is our habit, to join in combat our aim, to struggle for our faith is our task. The law of waging war for the cause of Allah is our rule. Our soldiers spend their lives and wealth for Allah, so that they may gain paradise."
