Leading with courage

LEADING WITH COURAGE

The society that separates its scholars from its warriors, will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting done by fools. Thucydides

Our society seems to have done just this, at least where our leaders are concerned. We no longer have warrior leaders who lead with honor, integrity, courage, and backbone. Our leaders have become nothing more than slick orators, actors with little honor or integrity, and no backbone or courage to do what is right and what is wise.

We get a pre-selected group of candidates to vote for, all picked by men of riches and influence with their own agendas, and almost none are selected because of their character, courage, or ability to lead and do what is right for the people that they propose to lead. They are selected because they can speak and act, like the scholar that has been separated from the warrior lifestyle, and who has never actually led men of honor in any way.

These men are not only in charge of our country, but of making decisions concerning war, the security of our country, and the over-sight of our military. Therefore, we have moved closer to what Thucydides stated; our thinking is done by cowards, and those same cowards make decisions about where and when our fighting men fight.

This is not the way it should be. We should be led by courageous warriors, warriors who understand and live the warrior lifestyle; men and women who live their lives by codes of honor and will not bend their principles for political gain; leaders who put the good of the country and the people before their own agendas; men and women of courage, honor, integrity, and backbone.

Oh how amazing it would be to have leaders that we could actually admire, leaders who we could hold up as role models for our children, instead of cowardly liars who grovel for our votes, but when in office see us as below them and forget that they are their to serve and protect the citizens who honored them with a high office. I wonder if I will ever see such a thing in my lifetime. I sincerely doubt it and that makes me sad for future generations.
