When to fight and when not to
He is victorious who knows when and when not to fight. Sun Tzu
In Sun Tzu’s famous book, The Art of War, he makes it clear that it is not always time to fight. You must pick your battles with special care. Granted, sometimes you are faced with a situation that leaves you no other options except for defending yourself on the spot, but these circumstances are few and far between.
You have to listen to your spirit and allow your inner voice to guide you. There are no hard and fast rules about when to fight and when not to fight, but it is always wise to only resort to physical action when all other honorable options have been exhausted.
When all other options have been tried and have failed, you still have to know when and when not to strike. Timing can be the difference in victory and defeat. Again, you have to listen to your spirit in order to know when to strike. Opportunities are rare and you must take advantage of them quickly when they arise. When you know in your spirit that it is time to act, don’t delay.
If it doesn’t feel right inside, it is not right. Remember, sometimes it is necessary to retreat and regroup before you engage. Use common sense in every situation.
Don’t allow your emotions to dictate your actions. Let your spirit and your intellect show you when and when not to fight. Your spirit will not steer you wrong if you learn to listen to it closely. Start thinking rationally, not emotionally. Bohdi Sanders ~ excerpt from the book, The Warrior Ethos
