Fare Well Edhi Sahib

FARE WELL EDHI SAHIB:

FARE WELL EDHI SAHIB:

After long illness, Abdul Sattar Edhi, the great philanthropist and humanitarian of 'the world' passed away on 8 July 2016. He will be missed greatly as he was a beacon of light for many others on how to care deeply for the sufferings of mankind on this planet. Inna lillahe wa inna ilaihi rajaeoon.

May ALLAH elevate his status in the hereafter and grant patience to his family (and to all of us) - Aameen.

Books can be written about his life and his endeavours but at the moment we would just like to highlight that Edhi Sahib refused to go abroad for treatment in spite of being severely ill and even though he was offered help by many in this regard. This shows his strong character and faith since he did not want to use any funds for his own self though he was leading a big charity organization.

He was also a man who 'chose' to live very simply just like our beloved Prophet (pbuh).

Some quarters in Pakistan are exploiting one of his sayings "No religion is higher than humanity." Edhi Sahib felt strong about his cause and that might have propelled him to say this at some time but it does not mean he ever disregarded religion of Islam. In fact, he has also said at another time that he had learnt the lesson of humanity from our dear Prophet (pbuh). Islam is the highest religion and it beautifully covers the lessons of humanity as well in detail.

Edhi Sahib was not an Islamic scholar just because he had a full Sunnah beard and just because he always used to dress up in Kurta Shalwar. Hence, when we want to learn how to start a charity cause (on any scale just for the sake of serving people without any profit-motive), then we have the liberty to take tips from his work. However, where the question of learning the principles of Islam is concerned, we should look up to different Islamic scholars apart from original sources of Qur'an, Sunnah and Hadith.
